Restoration mortar Monuments & Sites - Citadelle de Namur

Monuments and Sites - Citadelle de Namur

The Citadel of Namur, overlooking the confluence of the Sambre and the Meuse, is 1,000 years old. The walls of the fortified stronghold, made up of many underground passageways, required thorough restoration while respecting this classified historic site.

The 4,000 m² of walls had to be restored to perfect condition, meaning with the use of the original quarry stones, by the companies Bajart, BAM Galère and Artès TWT.

The "Monuments and Sites Citadel of Namur" mortar was specially developed for this project and contains natural hydraulic lime. This makes it ideal for laying quarry stones, as the mortar allows the walls to “breathe” better thanks to its water vapor permeability.

The mortar was delivered to the site in a silo and then mixed using the Cantillana Silomix system.
