The Lier Beguinage, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a unique historic site where timeless architecture and tranquility come together. For the large-scale restoration of its characteristic houses, it was essential to use materials that respect the integrity of the heritage. In collaboration with PIT-EIFFAGE nv, Cantillana provided the technical solution to restore this monument to its former glory.
The Challenge
When restoring historic monuments, choosing the right mortar is crucial. Modern cement mortars are often too hard and insufficiently breathable for old brick structures, which can lead to damage over time. The houses in the Beguinage required a solution that combines flexibility with an authentic appearance and excellent moisture-regulating properties.
Our Solution: Silomur Monuments et Sites NHL 3.5
For this project, Silomur Monuments et Sites NHL 3.5 was selected, a natural hydraulic lime mortar specially developed for the restoration of historic buildings.
